Hamlet's Dilemma

Hamlet, you're weird.  Just before you were like "I don't know what happens after life, I can't kill myself" and yet here you seem so certain that your Uncle will be sent to either Hell or Heaven.  Pick one dude, please.

Now that that's out of the way, I think Hamlet is pretty smart.  Best way to make Claudius suffer would be to put him through an eternity of fire and stuff.  But, leaving him alive can lead him to plot your demise, no?  Seriously he knows you know dude!  While finding the right moment to strike is good and all, there's too much risk.  But I think the risk out-beats the reward, so I personally believe that waiting for a good moment is best.  Currently, Hamlet's safety is at stake.  Claudius has got to be planning something for Hamlet in England.  Also, Hamlet straight up murdered Polonius so Claudius has to be thinking one of two things. The first thing is most likely "OH SH*T THAT COULD HAVE BEEN ME OH GOD OH GOD SEND HIM TO ENGLAND CAPTURE HIM RIGHT NOW JESUS, CHRIST OH LORD."  Likewise, he could be thinking "OHMYGOD HE'S INSANE KILLING AN INNOCENT PERSON SEND HIM AWAY PLEASE I COULD BE NEXT OR EVEN HIS HOT MOM WHO'S MY WIFE OH LORD HELP ME."  Real talk, either way Hamlet messed up hard.  I really do think that Claudius feels guilt.  On page 107, he specifically shows how he is having a hard time finding a prayer that can express his sorrow/regret for murdering his brother.

  1. Yeah i definitely feel like not killing Claudius when he had the chance is going to come back and bite him. Maybe if Hamlet and Claudius sat down talk about the whole murder thing, they could work something out. I mean i agree that Claudius feels remorse for what he's done but i think he's too far in to go back now. At least he caught Polonius in a "sinful act"...

  2. I also agree that Hamlet messed up, big time. That was really Hamlet's last chance to commit tthe murder, but he didn't take it! It makes me wonder if Hamlet is actually crazy, because it definitely seems that way. He keeps saying that he will do things, and he just won't take action! IT FRUSTRATES ME TO NO END. Hamlet has already sealed his fate, and it's for the worse of everyone...

  3. Seriously, for how impulsive he could be with killing Polonius, he overthinks things way too much. He suddenly can't do it because "Oh crap, he's praying. He apologized for his sins. Oh well, I'll just wait for him to sleep with my mom again." This might have been his last chance at the murder, and he missed it. Even more annoying is that the solution to his logic is "wait for things to get even worse."

  4. While I do believe that Claudius may show some regret, honestly overall he's pretty happy with how things are now (aside from Hamlet's apparent insanity). If he was truly regretful/ mournful then he would do more. Perhaps he would've atleast made an attempt to preserve his brother's memory. Or actually compose a meaningful prayer to God... OR JUST SOMETHING TO SHOW REGRET AND TO MAKE AMMENDS. I also agree that Hamlet shuold just get it over with and kill Claudius's dumb butt already. Hamlet is an intelligent man who coild easily compose a plan to take him out, but now he's just wasting more time and risking his safety.
